tread lightly

I was reminded of this saying this morning on my way to the deer stand. I was just 50 feet away from the stand which I stepped on a small stick.
CRACK!
Then I hear the sound of a spooked deer to my right. Judging from the deep sound of the thumps as it's hoofs hit the ground it was a heavy deer.
Lucky for me I'll probably see the deer later this morning as the deer tend to stay in general area .
